MUMBAI: Around 500 residents of Arnala village in Virar were out on the streets on Sunday to protest the lack of electricity that they were experiencing for the past three days.
Their protest stopped traffic for about three hours, till the police and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Limited (MSEDCL) officials reached the spot. While the residents said that MSEDCL was giving ‘flimsy’ excuses for the power cut, the police intervened and moved the crowd off the road.
Most of the protestors were from the fishing community, and said that storing their catch had become a problem since the power cut began on Friday night. Raju Tandel, President of the Machimaar Swaraj Samiti, said they suffered huge losses as the stored fish got spoilt.
