Bengaluru: Air India SATS baggage loadman Mukesh Kumar stationed at the swanky new Terminal 2 (T2) at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) rarely eats during his 10-hour shift. “I eat before coming to work and my next meal is after returning home,” said the 31-year-old.
Kumar’s plight is shared by over a hundred blue-collar workers, including luggage loaders, shuttle bus drivers and cleaners, who work on the airside of T2. Reason: A cafeteria set up for them near the tarmac serves only drinking water, while T2’s main canteen is outside the terminal building, a 25-minute walk at least. They are denied access to a shorter route to it from inside the terminal for lack of required clearances.
