NEW DELHI: Flagging the concerns over recent instances of under-construction bridges and elevated stretches collapsing in different parts of the country, Union road transport and highways minister, Nitin Gadkari on Monday directed the senior engineers to engage and take help of experts to check the health of machines and equipment used for such works.
Sources said while addressing the officials of NHAI, NHIDCL and state PWDs, Gadkari said failures of bridges and elevated stretches are inviting bad publicity and have also damaged the highway agencies image. The minister said major reasons for such failures are found to be machinery faults such as jack failure, crane problem and failure of shuttering.
