With huge scope for development of solar power projects in Odisha, Central public sector undertaking NHPC Limited has decided to set up 500-MW floating solar power projects in the State.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the solar industry is facing a tough time. However, the authorities now want to expedite the projects. NHPC CMD AK Singh has urged the State Government in this regard.
The NHPC would join hands with the GEDCOL, a State PSU, for setting up the projects. The NHPC and the GEDCOL would sign an MoU in this regard soon to set up the floating solar power projects at Rengali, Upper Kolab, Hirakud and Indravati.
The projects would come up under Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks (UMREPPs), a major scheme of the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
