The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to deposit Rs17.31 crore for causing air and water pollution in adjoining areas. The NGT order comes on the basis of the reports and recommendations of a joint committee of officials of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and the Deputy Commissioner of Panipat.
Satpal Singh, sarpanch of Singhpura Sithna gram panchayat, had filed a complaint in the NGT in 2018, alleging that the IOCL refinery caused air and water pollution around Bohli, Dadlana and Sithana villages of the district.
