NEW DELHI: The capital’s power regulator, Delhi Electricity Regularity Commission (DERC), on Wednesday announced the tariff for 2019-20, significantly bringing down fixed charges for domestic consumers while increasing the variable energy charges across some categories. However, almost all these consumers will be paying less as a result of the cumulative effect though their gains will vary.
The fixed charge is the amount a consumer pays irrespective of consumption. A variable tariff with different slabs is then applied to the number of units consumed to work out the bill. According to the new rates, applicable from August 1, the fixed charge for the domestic consumers with a sanctioned load up to 2 kilowatts (kW) has been reduced from Rs 125 to just Rs 20 and for above 2kW but less than 5kW, it has been slashed from Rs 140 to Rs 50. For more than 5kW and less than 15kW, it has been reduced from Rs 175 to Rs 100.
