In response to a proposal by the commerce ministry on the National Offset Policy, the power ministry has termed it to be against the interest of the power sector PSUs that may lead to hike in tariff to the end consumer. Under the proposed policy, the government is attempting to bridge the gap in trade deficit by mandating that an importer should tie up for almost an equivalent amount of export to offset imports.
