The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be able to meet 15% of its funding requirements over the next few years if the roads asset monetisation plan is a success, states CRISIL in its latest report. “The successful monetisation of the roads pipeline is critical as it could potentially meet 15% of the NHAI’s fund requirements over fiscal 2022 to 2026P, compared with less than 5% over fiscal 2017-2021E,” CRISIL has said.
Last month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had unveiled the Rs 6 lakh crore asset monetisation pipeline of the Centre, under which 27%, that is Rs 1,60,200 crore asset monetisation is planned for roads. The government aims to generate the amount by monetising 26,700 km of four-lane-and-above national highways via the toll-operate-transfer (TOT) and the infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) routes at Rs 6 crore per km.
