MUMBAI: After chief minister Uddhav Thackeray demanded a thorough inquiry into the power outage, a four-member committee was set up to probe the causes and to find out if it was due to negligence. It will also find out why only 50% repair of the GIS system was done and submit its report in a week, state energy minister Nitin Raut announced.
“MahaTransco has also been asked to conduct a technical audit of the transmission systems in the state and to conduct a root cause analysis,” Raut said. Thackeray held a meeting with Raut, minister of state for energy Prajakt Tanpure, state officials and power company members on Monday afternoon.
At the meeting, Thackeray asked for the immediate restoration of power supply and demanded that steps be taken to prevent such an episode from recurring. With heavy rains forecast over the next four days, Thackeray also asked for officials to be alert to the demand for power during this time.
“It is extremely unusual for all four lines supplying power to MMR to develop problems. Such a situation does not happen in decades. A technical audit will be conducted and we will be taking a close look at what went wrong,” said state energy secretary Aseem Gupta. “Our first priority will be to ensure that all the power supply in MMR is restored.”
