MUMBAI: Scores of citizens in parts of the island city and the suburbs faced major power cuts lasting two to 12 hours due to heavy rain and waterlogging at substations on Wednesday. Many could not work from home or their children attend online classes. At the waterlogged King’s Circle, smoke started coming out of a junction box on the roadside. BEST officials said they switched off the area’s power supply to avert any untoward incident.
“We had to shut down supply in the Chikhalwadi to Tardeo area, parts of Byculla and at Gandhi Market, Sion. Unless water recedes, our technical staff would not be able to rectify the fault,” an official said. Power outages were witnessed in Malad,
Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and other parts of the suburbs till evening. Power cuts led to wi-fi connectivity issues in some areas, with people taking to social media to highlight their woes.
