MUMBAI: In major safety lapse, a local train jumped the red signal before it was scheduled to enter CSMT’s platform number 3, which was already occupied by another train waiting to depart in the Down direction, and came to halt because of the Auxiliary Warning System (AWS) around 3.20pm on Thursday.
The Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) incident disrupted Central Railway services, on both fast and slow corridors. “It is a serious incident. We have initiated an inquiry,” a CR official said.
In an SPAD incident, the motorman forgets to halt the train despite the red signal. The AWS fitted in the motorman’s cabin in all local trains, through a series of magnets and sensors, ensures that the train comes to a halt immediately on jumping the red signal.
