MUMBAI: Backtracking on its statement before the Supreme Court on October 7, 2019 that “trees required to be cut have been cut”, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has filed an application in the apex court seeking permission to cut 84 trees that stand on the 33-hectare plot earmarked for building the Metro Line 3 car shed in Aarey.
MMRCL, which is executing the 33.5km-long underground Metro rail project, in its application filed on Wednesday, said the entire Metro-3 car shed needs to be made available for execution works-that are to be carried out in a “crashed time frame in order to achieve scheduled revenue operation dates”.
The application states that following the state government order of July 21, 2022, the car depot works have been resumed at the site. The scheduled commissioning date of Phase I (Aarey station to BKC station) is December 2023 and Phase II (BKC to Cuffe Parade station) is June 2024.
