MUMBAI: Work on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension, with a revised deadline of March 2022, is likely to be delayed further in the wake of Friday’s incident in which a steel span of the underconstruction bridge collapsed in Bandra-Kurla Complex. Work on the 3.8km-long elevated bridge had begun in 2016 with the original deadline in 2019.
Metropolitan commissioner S V R Srinivas said, “The project will get delayed further as the steel span will have to be procured again. Such steel span design girders take time to be designed and manufactured.”
As this span has a sharp curvature, one made of steel was procured instead of concrete.
