MUMBAI: A major mishap was averted due to the presence of mind of a Central Railway (CR) motorman who applied emergency brakes to halt the train after spotting a metal barrel placed on the fast corridor track on Friday afternoon.
Motorman Ashok Sharma, who was piloting the local train, will be rewarded by the CR authorities for his presence of mind. “The Khopoli-fast local train had left from CSMT at 3.10am. I spotted an obstacle on the track. Immediately, I applied the emergency brakes which made the train slow down but it could not prevent it from hitting the barrel,” Sharma said.
