MUMBAI: Air India’s early morning flight from Mumbai to Dubai was delayed twice this week. The flight departed 11 hours late on Sunday, while on Monday it was delayed by over five hours. AI-911, scheduled to depart at 1.05 am, left at 12.51 pm on Sunday, while on Monday it departed at 6.35 am. Air India operates the short haul flight with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and on both days technical problems with the aircraft delayed the departure.
A passenger onboard the Monday flight said: “Till 4 am, we were made to sit inside the aircraft with no air-conditioning, food and not enough drinking water. It was hot and suffocating. A child fell ill and the parents demanded medical attention. Passengers were protesting by now, people screamed asking to be deplaned. Several people tried to approach the cockpit for answers, one person tried to open the emergency door.”
The airline finally allowed the passengers to alight. “Once outside the aircraft, some passengers sat on the floor, while others stood around in the crowd. No water or snack was offered during this entire time,” he said.
