MUMBAI: The BMC demolished 32 slums outside Charni railway station on Monday morning. The encroachments with plastic sheets were an eyesore for anyone coming out of the railway station. There are plans to beautify the stretch by creating a strip garden.
Assistant engineer Sanjay Pol from D ward said the joint action was undertaken by the civic body and the railways.
“A portion of the wall abuts the railway premises and therefore we undertook the action with railway authorities. We got many complaints of encroachments on Maharshi Karve Marg… We also found old construction material including debris dumped on the stretch. We got dumpers to take away the material,” said Pol adding that pedestrians had also complained about the encroachments leaving the space unclean.
