MNGL starts trial operations at LNG-CNG conversion plant

The Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) has started trial operation of its LNG-CNG conversion plant at Pathardi on the outskirts of the city, after getting all the necessary permissions. The plant is expected to be commercially operational within a month.

Sources from MNGL said the trials of the LNG processing plant started on Thursday and around 18,000 kg CNG was produced on the first day. MNGL will bring LNG to Nashik through tankers and will convert it into CNG for vehicles and PNG for cooking.

Sources said the plant will be able to produce a total of 1 lakh kg CNG per day and it will be enhanced gradually. The CNG will be supplied to the outlets in the city.

Moreover, MNGL will provide adequate supply to the Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (NMPML) for its CNG buses.

MNGL sources said they are already supplying compressed natural gas to 100 CNG buses of the Nashik Municipal Corporation and with their LNG-CNG conversion plant operational, they will be supplying CNG to the remaining buses within the next few days.

A few days back, there reports that several CNG buses are lying idle due to the lack of sufficient CNG supply.

In December 2020, the then Union minister for petroleum and gas had performed the bhumipujan of the proposed liquefied natural gas processing station at Pathardi.

The MNGL had also immediately started the civil work for the plant, but the work was delayed due to Covid during the last two years.
