In a bid to prevent landslides during monsoon, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Develop-ment Authority (MMRDA) is set to build a protection wall near the Airoli Katai Naka hillock. The agency has consulted with IIT-Bombay for the project.
A new elevated road, which is under construction, will pass through the hillock. The Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) wall be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 73 crore. The project is expected to be completed in nine months, an official said.
Earlier, the authority had built a similar retaining wall near the Kandivali Bandongri hillock after a landslide in 2020. While there were no casualties, traffic was hit.
