Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has appointed a contractor for the construction of a depot for Metro Line 5—Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan—at Kasheli. The contractor, Ritwik Projects, will undertake construction of the depot at a cost of Rs 589 crore on 27 hectares of land.
The 24.9km stretch of Metro Line 5 is being developed in two phases. Construction work for the first phase, covering a 11.9km route between Thane and Bhiwandi, is almost 80% complete. Work on the depot is expected to be completed by March 2026.
