Chennai: Barricading of portions of Venkatanarayana Road in T Nagar for metro rail work has forced commuters to negotiate barricades and jump underground cables to reach the Nandanam metro station. There is no footpath.
CMRL has barricaded the stretch, including the footpath, from South Boag Road junction to Nandanam junction. This has made access to the Nandanam metro station difficult. It has also blocked access to business establishments such as shops and residential areas on the road. Traffic on the road has been made one-way for pre-construction work ahead of tunnelling.
S Lakshminarayanan, who walks to the station from his office on Venkatanarayana Road, said he has been forced to walk through the metro rail work site to reach the station, or negotiate through a busy lane bustling with vehicle traffic.
