Chennai: Metro rail has recommended that bus services be operated instead of building a proposed metro line between Siruseri and Kilambakkam via Kelambakkam as the estimated ridership is found to be less to operate a metro system. The new bus terminus will have a metro rail connection from the airport.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has suggested studying the possibility of a metro rail extension line towards Mamallapuram via Kelambakkam which has substantial industrial and residential developments and also exploring an extension line up to Pattabiram with 15 stations, instead of terminating it at Avadi.
A release said CMRL undertook detailed a feasibility study for extending the Siruseri-Kilambakkam line via Kelambakkam for 23.5km with 12 tentative elevated stations at an estimated 5,458.06 crore.
