Despite tall claims, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has failed to replace the ordinary street lights with LED ones even after three years. In 2016, the MC had announced installation of LED lights under the Energy Efficient Street Lights (EESL), a project of the Central Government. Later, the work was undertaken by the Smart City project. Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu assures the councillors in every meeting that the civic body would provide street lights in their respective areas. LED street lights have been a long pending demand of councillors.
Surinder Singh, JE, street light wing of the MC, said, “We will install 35,000 LED street light units under the Smart City project. We will replace and install new LED lights at 13,000 points in the East constituency. The project was inaugurated by Navjot Singh Sidhu today.”
