NEW DELHI: The new mandatory standards for battery components and their testing, including cells, of electric vehicles (EVs) will come into force in two-three months.
Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari told TOI that the provision on penalty against companies failing to comply with the standards and regulatory norms will kick in only after these are notified. “We should not penalise the manufacturers before notifying the updates norms,” he said.
According to sources, the standards and testing protocols will be notified simultaneously for both two- and four-wheeler EVs. The government will also make it mandatory for vehicle manufacturers to sell EVs with only standard-compliant batteries.
