Kolkata: The viaduct construction for Joka-Esplanade Metro’s Majerhat extension is now over. Over the last three days, implementing agency RVNL completed the crucial work of deck slab-casting for the last 550m of the overhead section beyond the Majerhat Metro station.
A continuous viaduct (on which Metro tracks are laid) till this point — around 260m from Mominpore crossing — is a prerequisite for Kolkata’s Purple line’s 2km extension from Taratala. The Line 3 now runs 6.5km from Joka to Taratala and is due to start extended operations till Majerhat this pujas. “The deck slab-casting is significant for the extension project. All gaps between the piers in the Taratala-Majerhat section have now been bridged,” a Railways official said.
