MUMBAI: The state cabinet has cleared a new scheme to provide subsidy on LPG connections on the lines of the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The state will release Rs 3,846 for every new gas connection to poor families who have been left out of the PMUY ambit. The central scheme covers only a certain number of below poverty line families in the state every year.
There are 41 lakh households in the state without a gas connection today, and most of them are likely to be covered under the PMUY this year. The rest will be helped by the state’s scheme, which aims to create a “smoke-free” state. “BPL households having a ration card will be eligible to get the gas connection,” said an official.
