Maharashtra govt to ink MoU with UK County to promote EV & tourism projects

The Maharashtra government will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Midlands in the United Kingdom (UK) for mutual cooperation in development of electric vehicles and tourism projects.

The Mayor of West Midlands, Andy Street, and his delegation called on chief minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence Varsha on Wednesday. The primary agenda of this meeting was to strengthen the relationship between the two states through mutual cooperation. Shinde said the state government will follow up with the center to start the Mumbai-Birmingham flight services too.

Shinde said West Midland companies should invest in the state to take advantage of the future opportunities in Maharashtra. West Midlands is a metropolitan county in England.

“Showing positivity in this regard, it was decided at this time to further increase these relations by signing mutual investment agreements. Reputed companies like Jaguar, Cadbury and JCB are located in the West Midlands. Street requested Shinde to increase investment relations between the two states like it is between two countries. West Midlands is a major hub in the electric vehicles sector, and hence there is a huge opportunity for new investments in the state. Street also pointed out that if the direct flight service starts from Mumbai to Birmingham, it can be of great benefit for the growth of tourism in these two states,” a statement from the CMO said.

“There are great opportunities in tourism, it was decided to take the tourism initiatives in this meeting. Many companies are working in the infrastructure sector and they can also get an opportunity to work in these two states. Therefore, it was decided in this meeting that Maharashtra and West Midlands will work together in three areas – electric vehicle manufacturing, tourism and infrastructure development,” the statement said.
