CHENNAI: Flagging ‘overspeed’ on highways, the Madras has quashed a central notification issued in 2018, increasing the speed limit of vehicles on expressways from 100 km per hour to 120 kmph.
Blaming ‘overspeeding’ for most road accidents, the court also directed authorities to reduce the speed limit as per a previous August 5, 2014 notification, which prescribed 80 km per hour as maximum speed limit even on highways.
