NEW DELHI: Taking longer routes following Russia’s war on Ukraine, United has hiked baggage charges for its India flights. Barring some exceptions, passengers will have to pay $200 for the second checked-in bag instead of $100 earlier, and $ 300 for an oversize or extra bag, up from $200 earlier.
“Due to closed airspace in eastern Europe and Russia, United is now operating a longer route for direct flights between the US and Delhi. As a result, we are instituting a temporary bag fee increase that will apply to all new tickets issued on or after April 5, 2022, due to weight restrictions,” United says has told its trade partners.
The enhanced charges apply to flights between Delhi and Chicago, and Delhi and Newark. “The fees will also apply to flights connecting to/from direct Chicago-Delhi and Newark-Delhi flights (like Omaha-Newark-Delhi),” it adds.
