MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) have made it compulsory for all Kaali Peeli taxis to have rooftop indicators in six months and the deadline is set for June 30, 2022.
As per the rule, rooftop indicators will have option of three lights, red colour light will indicate that the cab is occupied by a passenger, a green light will indicate to commuters that the taxi is available for hire and a white colour will give the message that the “driver is off-duty will not be able to ferry any passenger.”
Apart from the LED lights, the indicators will have letters ‘For Hire’, ‘Hired’ and ‘Off Duty’, in English as well as Marathi languages, sources said. The MMRTA has also asked all cabbies to recalibrate meters till January 31, 2022, as per new fares as some of the meters still show old fares.
