The price of LED bulbs being distributed under a government programme by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd has fallen to Rs 55 a piece.
Power minister Piyush Goyal said the price was discovered after a bidding process by EESL that concluded on Wednesday. EESL has distributed 88 million LED bulbs under the scheme, Goyal said at the launch of the ETEnergyworld.com site today.
The LED bulb programme is aimed at energy conservation. “LED bulbs have a very long life, almost 50 times more than ordinary bulbs, and 8-10 times that of CFLs, and therefore provide both energy and cost savings in the medium term,” the government has said.
