KOLKATA: A solar dome, complete with solar panels and exhibits on renewable energy, adjacent to Eco Park in New Town has been opened for public viewing.
Being jointly executed by Hidco and WBSEDCL, the dome is 27m-high and has a diameter of 45m. In the first phase, only the ground floor has been opened. Hidco managing director Debashis Sen said, “There are panels on renewable energy and various environmental aspects, including global energy. An open air space on the lawn will also houses exhibits and benches for visitors.” Eco Park visitors will have free access.
The solar dome is a truncated dome, studded with 2,000 active solar panels for continuous generation of solar power. When fully completed, it is aimed at generating 180KWH of energy that will power the internal lighting of the facility as well as street lights in the area.
