KOLKATA: The Joka-Esplanade Metro is eyeing a November-end opening for its 6.5km Joka-Taratala stretch, given that the Commissioner of Railway Safety is slated for inspection on November 10. It should be followed by the commissioning of a portion of the other ready Metro corridor—the New Garia-Ruby section of the New Garia-Airport corridor—in the beginning of December.
Latief Khan, commissioner of railway safety, Northeast Frontier (NF) circle, is scheduled to test the priority Phase 1 Joka-Taratala section of the 14km Joka-Esplanade corridor on November 10. Following the inspection, RVNL, implementing agency, and Metro Railway, which operates the lines, hope that the section can be launched by the fourth week of November. Metro Railway has also applied for CRS’s inspection of the 5.4km New Garis-Ruby section, the first truncated portion of the 32km New Garia-Airport corridor.
