The Eastern Railway has revealed that around 3 lakh passengers hopped on board the North-South Metro in Kolkata on Christmas till 6 pm. Kausik Mitra, Eastern Railway spokesperson, told The Indian Express that the North-South Metro carried 2,98,116 passengers, marking a 17,753 jump than the figure recorded in 2022.
Kolkata Metro passenger rush
As per the report, the maximum passenger rush was seen at Dum Dum, Esplanade, Maidan, and Park Street Metro stations. The rush prompted the Metro authorities to open additional counters at the stations in the presence of adequate security measures. They also provided additional tokens and smart cards in anticipation of a surge in the crowd.
