KOLKATA: The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has set a December 2023 deadline to make the full 16.6km stretch of East-West Metro operational. That means, if the KMRC is able to stick to the timeline, passengers can travel between Sector V and Howrah Maidan in the Metro, including a stretch that runs under the river Hooghly, in a year from now.
“We are trying our best to complete the entire East-West Metro line by December 2023 even though it’s a huge challenge,” KMRC’s new MD, Naresh Chandra Karmali, told TOI on Monday.
This pushes back the deadline of the Metro line that has faced multiple challenges, including subsidence at Bowbazar by two months.
