BENGALURU: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has notified draft rules for installing ‘prepaid smart meter’ for all categories of consumers across the state which is expected to help citizens save big on paying annual security deposits (ASD) to Escoms and pre-empt attempts at tampering with power usage during the time of billing.
In simple terms, these meters operate just the way prepaid currency plans for mobile phones do: These meters are linked to smartphones, and consumers get an alert when the monthly power quota is about to be exhausted and they can recharge for more power usage.
