Karnataka residents will now have to pay higher electricity bills as the sate Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has approved a hike in tariffs by 70 paisa per unit to bridge the revenue deficit. This marks the fourth time in two years that electricity prices have been increased in Karnataka.
According to a press statement released by KERC, after scrutinizing the applications of Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs), the commission has approved a total Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Rs 58,109.95 crore as against Rs 62,133.47 crore sought by the ESCOMs in their tariff applications. The new charges will be applicable from April 1, 2023.
