NEW DELHI: Jet Airways has grounded seven more aircraft “due to non-payment to lessors”. Now just about 30 of the airline’s fleet, which used to be 119 till a few weeks back, is operational. In the last five days, 13 planes have been grounded for this reason.
There is diminishing hope among lenders, employees and government agencies that promoter Naresh Goyal will be able to rise funds to save the airline he started 26 years ago. Sources say lenders may “move in” by Monday by asking Goyal and his nominees to resign from Jet board.
“Banks may wait for a couple of days and if Goyal is unable to do the needful, the former will ask him to quit from the board with his nominees. That resignation will be sent to he board which will accept it from the date it is tendered on. No board meeting will be required for that,” said sources.
