NEW DELHI: Bengaluru will become a two-runway airport on December 5. An IndiGo flight, with no passenger on board, became the first to operate from the city’s Kempegowda International Airport to validate the new runway.
“Two senior captains, Akshay Subbaramu and Sunil Kumar Pillai, took off in an Airbus A320 from Bengaluru airport’s old runway (27). It then came in to make an instrument landing at the new south parallel runway 09R. The aircraft touched the new runway and then took off again from it (without stopping). This was followed by a full instrument missed approach. The aircraft did multiple approaches on the new runway and all of them were successful,” said a senior IndiGo pilot.
Bangalore International Airport Ltd spokesperson Archana Muthappa said: “The new south runway at is nearing operational readiness with the successful completion of validation flight on Tuesday. Operations on the new runway are planned to commence on December 5, 2019.”
