Energy Transition assumes critical importance to ward off the threat of climate change and environmental pollution. The carbon budget is gradually declining and the same for a 50% likelihood of remaining under 1.5 °C, according to Climate Change Tracker (2023), is 250 gigatonne CO2 and is estimated to exhaust in 2029. The efforts being made by various countries therefore need to be upscaled significantly.
India’s energy transition journey has been remarkable. Setting up ambitious targets ahead of most countries, charting out pathways with enabling policies, schemes, and initiatives, revisiting/re-calibrating them in view of the learning, technology developments & their cost trajectories, etc., have been the underlying strands.
