In a boost to Steel Authority of India NSE 1.78 % (SAIL), the Indian Railways has hiked the price at which it buys rails to Rs 67,500 per tonne. This price will be applicable for supplies to be made from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023. The earlier price was Rs 63,624 per tonne.
Under the continuing agreement with the railways, these prices are for rail supplies from SAIL that have an Ultimate tensile Strength (UTS) of 90 kg/mm2 and a weight of 60 kg or 52 kg per metre. The 52 kg rails are recommended for use on all Broad Gauge main line routes with future speeds up to 130 kilometres per hour (kmph). The 60 kg rails designed are for speed up to 160 kmph.
