For the first time, the Coimbatore Corporation on Monday deployed a helicopter with help from the Indian Air Force to fight the fire that broke out at its dump yard in Vellalore on Saturday.
The IAF’s Sulur Air Force Station sent an Mi-17 V5 helicopter that used bambi bucket to fight the fire. The quantity of water that the bucket carried was 3,500 litre, said a press release from the Southern Air Command, Thiruvananthapuram.
A Corporation release said that the chopper made 10 sorties by refilling water from the nearby Sulur tank to douse the flames and control the fire from spreading.
