With the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) gearing up to make India’s first underwater metro train operational in the city likely by the year-end, trial runs for the project are in a full swing.
The city that takes pride in introducing rail services in the country will achieve another milestone once the project gets moving on the ground. Test runs will be conducted for nearly seven months before the train service is operationalised, officials said.
The train will cross the portion of the tunnel right beneath the Hooghly river in just 45 seconds, officials said. It will ply 100 metres beneath the river waters.
