Earlier this month, the European Union parliament declared nuclear power and natural gas as ‘green energy’ and investments in these sectors as climate friendly. These new rules will pave the way for gas and nuclear power plants in Europe as the continent struggles to make itself independent of Russian gas. However, on the other side of the Atlantic, New York City’s biggest natural gas-fired power plant is set to close and reopen as a clean energy transmission and storage hub.
