AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court acquitted Mumbai businessman Birju Salla on Tuesday, overturning an NIA court’s earlier ruling that had sentenced him to life imprisonment. Salla had been convicted of placing a threat note on a Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight on October 30, 2017, which resulted in an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport.
The bench of judges AS Supehia and MR Mengdey acquitted Salla due to insufficient evidence linking him to the note discovered in the flight’s lavatory.
