AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court on Tuesday acquitted Mumbai businessman Birju Salla quashing the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court’s order that had sentenced him to life for planting a threat note on a Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight on October 30, 2017, which led to its emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport.
The bench comprising Justice A S Supehia and Justice M R Mengdey acquitted Salla for lack of evidence linking him to the note found from the flight’s lavatory.
In July 2019, the NIA court convicted Salla for life for defaming Jet Airways because his estranged girlfriend was an employee of the airline. Salla spent six years in jail since his arrest in 2017.
