NAVI MUMBAI: The project is expected to save over one lakh litres of petrol or diesel per day for about one lakh motorists travelling between Mumbai and Pune, officials say. This will result from a reduction of nearly 30 minutes of travel time on the Expressway.
Considering an average carbon emission of 2.5 kg per litre of diesel or petrol burned, the project is estimated to save around 2.5 lakh kg of carbon emissions daily.
Moreover, since one mature tree absorbs 0.07kg of CO2 per day, the project’s carbon savings are equivalent to having nearly 36 lakh extra trees. In addition, MSRDC has committed to planting 48,000 trees along the Expressway as part of forest clearance conditions set by the Union environment ministry.
