NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday introduced the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation Amendment) Bill in Parliament to allow private sector entry in exploration and production of deep-seated and critical minerals such as lithium — one of the building blocks of energy transition.
The Bill, introduced by coal and mines minister Pralhad Joshi amid din created by the Opposition over continued ethnic violence in Tripura, also empowers the Centre to auction mining lease and composite licence for certain critical minerals.
