BENGALURU: Clearing confusion over the state government’s ambitious programme of Gruha Jyothi to provide free electricity up to 200 units per household, energy minister KJ George on Wednesday reiterated that all households that consume less than 200 units of power in a month will be eligible for it.
Regardless of being identified as Below Poverty Line (BPL) or Above Poverty Line (APL), any household that consumes less than the annual average of 200 units will be covered under the guarantee. According to the minister, Karnataka has about 2.5 crore households, of which 2.2 crore consume less than 200 units of power every month.
“Out of these households, the average usage per household is around 53 units, regardless of the rural or urban background.
