BENGALURU: Successfully rolling out the Gruha Jyothi scheme of providing free power up to 200 units since July 1, the government on Friday paid electricity supply companies (Escoms) a whopping Rs 476 crore as the first month’s due.
Handing over ‘zero bills’ or ‘subsidized bills’ based on the consumption pattern of consumers, Escoms had collectively sought Rs 970.5 crore.
Sources in the energy department told STOI that out of the 1.4 crore households which enrolled for the scheme, as 1.2 crore have been handed over bills. The process is on to give bills to the remaining households. “Among the 1.19 crore households, about 74 lakh have consumed less than their annual average approved by the government,” said an official.
