Not only private consumers, even government departments are also not paying their monthly electricity bills and various government departments owe Rs 70.33 crore to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). The authorities have failed to recover their dues despite repeated efforts. The amount is mounting as the last year’s figure was Rs 41.70 crore in July-end.
According to sources, out of total Rs 70.33 crore, the highest amount of Rs 38.51 crore has been pending towards Water Supply and Sanitation Department, followed by Local Government Department (Rs 14.21 crore), Rural Development and Panchayat Department (Rs 6 crore) and Health and Family Welfare Department (Rs 2.53 crore).
